The first step in the process of petitioning the court to seal your record is to obtain your criminal history report, court records, and arrest records. Obtaining arrest and court records is outlined in the record-sealing roadmap. Your criminal history report can be obtained through the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

The cost for the records check is $4.00. Arrest records can be obtained through the city or county of the arrest.

Depending upon your offenses there will be a mandatory time frame that you must wait before you can petition the court to seal your records. It is important to note that you must remain conviction free during the waiting period. Please see the Conditions/Requirements page for more information on wait times.
While the overall process for sealing convictions is similar across all Colorado cities and counties, we provide city and county-specific instructions. The filing fees for sealing a single record is $65.00 and $224.00 for multiple records in a county however this fee may be waivable. Please see the "Record- Sealing Roadmap" page for detailed instructions on how to seal one or more records.
Once you have completed all of the required documentation with the court, a determination will be made as to whether your case or cases can be sealed. If all of your records are sealed you can answer "no" on any application that asks if you have been convicted of a crime. In addition, those convictions will not show up on standard commercial background checks.
